How bad are winters in KC?

I live in Cincinnati and have never been to KC but I was wondering what the winters are like out there. I have always envisioned Kansas City as having mild winters with very little snow, but I've heard the area can get cold and snowy. How bad are the winters there on average, and how do they compare to winters in Cincinnati? Also, are winters in Kansas City worse than those in St. Louis?
